Experience
Web Developer
When I first came to Canada, my classmate introduced me to her non-profit organization The Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being(CNIW), then I helped this organization to build their own website to publish health articles from December 2019 to July 2020.
The Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being (CNIW)is a media platform and non-profit organization created by Peter Wang who is a tenured professor (Epidemiology) , Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) and Professor (status only) at DLSPH, University of Toronto. CNIW is committed to publishing scientific articles that cover diverse disciplines, including healthcare, first aid, food safety, nutrition, environmental issues, and advanced technology.
Since joining CNIW, I’ve been instrumental in developing our online presence, starting with the acquisition of our organizational domain and setting up the database using WordPress. My role expanded to leading a team of three in the meticulous planning and construction of our website. We collaboratively designed the web theme, structured the pages, and meticulously coded the sections and widgets using HTML/CSS to ensure a user-friendly interface and an aesthetically pleasing layout. This project not only enhanced our organization’s digital footprint but also honed my leadership and technical skills, reinforcing the importance of teamwork in achieving complex objectives.
Prior to the development of our website, CNIW predominantly utilized WeChat for the dissemination of articles. With the completion of the website, the team and I dedicated a significant amount of time to migrating these articles into our new database. This process involved careful organization and coordination among group members to ensure a smooth transition of content. This transition not only allowed for a more centralized and accessible repository of information but also broadened our reach beyond the WeChat platform. As a result, our audience now benefits from easier access to our resources through a more navigable and comprehensive digital platform. This effort underscores our commitment to enhancing the visibility and impact of our content, leveraging the website’s capabilities to foster a more engaged and informed community.
As our efforts increasingly made an impact, we secured a $50,000 grant from the Red Cross for our COVID-19 initiatives, specifically the Mandarin Hotline Project and the Building Intergenerational Connections project. My journey with CNIW concluded in July 2019 as I began focusing on advancing my education to get into a great univeristy. This period marked significant growth in both our community outreach and my personal development
